Leadership Opportunities

 student life

St. Mary's High School offers students many opportunities to lead, whether they are leading fellow students, elementary school students or community members. Students do not necessarily have to be natural leaders or comfortable speaking in front of large groups.

The opportunities below allow students of many different personalities to work with others to make the world a better place.

St. Mary’s High School combined the Student Ambassador, Big Brother, and Student Council Programs into one unique four-year Student Leadership Program (SLP) to provide students an opportunity to better develop and refine leadership skills.  SLP combines retreat experiences, monthly seminars, Leadership I Course, Leadership II Course, and Internship experiences.

St. Mary’s High School is a member of Beta Chi Pi - Science Teachers of Missouri (STOM) science honor society.  Students must meet the state requirements for membership.

The American Legion Boys State of Missouri is an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government. St. Mary’s High School sends 2 to 3 students every year.

There are multiple opportunities for students to take on leadership roles through Campus Ministry in retreats, liturgy, and faith-sharing experiences.

FOCUS Youth Leadership-St. Louis educates the region’s youth to become future leaders. Founded in 1989, the program provides high school juniors with a firsthand opportunity to gain problem-solving skills and strategies, develop awareness of issues in the region and learn how they can make a positive difference. St. Mary’s High School is one of 30 schools in the St. Louis Metropolitan area that participates.

The Marianist LIFE (Living in Faith Experience) program is a faith formation experience for high school students that prepares them to build Christian community.

Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society that was formed in 1957. The purpose of this organization is to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship and by promoting various mathematical activities that foster the enjoyment of mathematics.  St. Mary’s High School’s criteria exceed the national standards for membership.

St. Mary’s takes pride in that great heritage and in the young men who are selected to be members of the Chaminade Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). The purpose of the NHS is to be of service to the school. Students must meet certain criteria to become members.

St. Mary's offers students the opportunity to participate with the Archdiocese of St. Louis Office of Youth Ministry in an annual March for Life Pilgrimage to Washington DC. Junior and Senior Students also have the option to attend various Spring Break Service and Immersion experiences. Some of the locations we have visited include: New Orleans, LA; Philadelphia, PA; San Antonio, TX; Appalachia; Puerto Rico, and Ecuador.

Facilitated by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (NCADA), this is an opportunity for students to learn to be leaders in substance abuse prevention.  For more information or to complete an application, visit
