South Side Catholic High School opens on September 21st
School is managed and staffed by the Christian Brothers
1933
Brothers of Mary (Marianists) take charge
1935
First graduating class - 62 graduates
1936
Accreditation with University of Missouri and North Central Association
1937
Gymnasium built
1938
South Side enters Prep Athletic League
1946-47
Cardinal Ritter changes name to St. Mary's High School in honor of the Brothers of Mary
Enrolment peaks at 1,100 students, necessitating a split-shift schedule
1952
St. Mary's joins newly organized Catholic Athletic Conference
1956
25th anniversary of school's founding
1964
Old building razed; new structure completed
1967
New classroom wing completed, Administrative offices remodeled, Library enlarged, and Departmental offices in annex established.
1971
Audiovisual Complex / Media Center established
1974
Greenhouse erected
1977
Athletic offices expanded and moved to current location of gym annex
1979
Remodeled department offices, art studio and faculty study
1980
Development Office and computer science lab added
1981
50th Anniversary of school's founding
Little Theater added
1982
Computer center, hallways and classrooms remodeled, one classroom added, weight room enlarged
1983
Alumni foyer dedicated, Lobby remoldeled, library renovated (community school involvement) Cafeteria remodeled
1986
Catholic Athletic Conference changed to Archdiocesan Athletic Association
1988
Groundbreaking for soccer / football field and track
1992
Lights added to athletic field
Original gym destroyed by fire
1993
S. Mary's Hall of Fame established
Arch Bishop John L. May Athletic Complex completed
1994
CD-ROM installed in library
Journalism / computer lab created
1995
St. Mary's High School Alumni Association organized
1997
Little Theater renamed the Richard Contini Little Tartare
1998
St. Joseph's Chapel acquired
2000
Renovation of the third floor into a fine arts wing
2002
St. Joseph's property purchased
2004
Wireless technology installed throughout the campus
School board is formed
2005
Nathaniel's Journey begins (Freshman spiritual and social transition plan)
St. Mary's signs Marianist sponsorship document formalizing the affliation with the United States Province of the Society of Mary.
2006
75th anniversary of the school's founding
2008
Aquisition of St. Michael's Apartments (construction of the baseball field)
2008
Opening of the Center for Applied Sciences in the Southside Campus
