Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta National High School Math Society
 
Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society formed in 1957. This organization aims to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship and by promoting various mathematical activities that foster the enjoyment of mathematics. It is co-sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. Requirements for Membership:
  1. The student must be a current St. Mary’s High School student.
  2. The student must have completed at least six semesters of mathematics courses, including Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II/Trig.
  3. The student must be currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus Honors or Calculus 1818.
  4. The student must have satisfactory (S) conduct for every quarter in all courses during high school.
  5. The student must have a 3.6 or higher cumulative GPA out of 4 for all high school math courses.
  6. The student must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA out of 4 for all high school courses.
  7. The student will become eligible for membership in Mu Alpha Theta after completing the Honors Algebra II/Trig course.
  8. The student’s eligibility will be determined in May.

If a student has successfully met all eight membership requirements, he will receive his membership certificate and shall become a part of the national Mu Alpha Theta organization.
