Boys State

The American Legion Boys State of Missouri is an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government. Missouri Boys State draws together the best and brightest high school juniors to help lead them down the path of individual success and leadership through "doing," not just learning.

St. Mary’s High School sends 2 to 3 students every year. In January, students interested in attending Missouri Boys State meet with school officials to receive information on the experience, the selection process and the date. Interested students are required to write an essay about why they want to go and how the experience would make them a better leader at St. Mary’s. A committee consisting of several St. Mary's High School faculty and staff read the essays and interview the students. They then make recommendations to local American Legion representatives.
